The Midwest Glampers are having a Wild West weekend at Weldon Springs State Recreation Area on Clinton Lake in Illinois. Everyone arrived Thursday and we set up taking most of a loop with a couple of unsuspecting victims. Yesterday, Ginge and I decided to tray the path around the lake. It took us about two hours and was longer than we thought. The trail went up and down a lot of ravines, sometimes with steps and sometimes not. We walked around the marina and restaurant at one end of the lake and view the beautiful tribute to veterans on the other side. We also saw a huge knot on a tree that resembled a human skull. As we dragged back to the campsite (Well, I was dragging at least), we were greeted with plans to have lunch in Clinton and check out some antique shops. We accepted of course. By the time we returned, I was ready for a nap. In keeping with the theme of the weekend, the next activity was embellishing our cowboy hats. Supper was on our own, and Ginge and I enjoyed grilled chicken and vegetables, along with coleslaw and fresh melon. After a short time at the campfire, I was glad to see my bed. This morning a breakfast burrito feed was planned at 9, which was about the time that a light rain moved in. However, we charged ahead with true Glamper spirit and eventually the rain gave up trying to dampen out spirits and our breakfast. Raccoons apparently are our official mascot (see the flag above) and take their mascot duties seriously. One member, who shall remain nameless, put her cooler and a number of edibles in her truck last night and forgot to close the door. Raccoons not only got in the cooler, which was weighted down by lawn chairs, but also enjoyed a few granola bars that were in the console. Tonight, the highlight of the weekend: after a potluck supper, we will be instructed in line dancing and rope twirling. Stay tuned.
